Fire Extinguisher Servicing

We provide a high-quality fire extinguisher servicing which keeps businesses compliant to legislation. We can service all types of fire extinguishers including water, powder, foam and more.

All organisations have a legal obligation to install and maintain firefighting equipment to safeguard all those accessing properties. This service ensures that, in the event of an emergency, your extinguishers are working as they should to assist with the safe evacuation of buildings under fire conditions.

Laws and Regulations

This equipment should be inspected regularly to be fit for purpose in the case of an emergency. They should be serviced annually to maintain a good working condition and to comply with the regulations which allows insurance requirements to be abided.

Extinguishers in commercial or public buildings should be visually inspected monthly for damage and should be serviced to BS 5306-3 annually. Water, foam and powder extinguishers have to be discharged and refilled every five years. CO2 extinguishers must be refurbished after ten years. However, kitemarked P50 maintenance-free extinguishers only need a refurbish after ten years and do not require maintenance within the ten years (other than the monthly visual inspection and a recorded annual visual inspection by the owners).

Tasks/Stages Involved

BS 5306-3 and most extinguisher manufacturers recommend yearly servicing by an engineer. This consists of discharging and refilling of foam, water and powder extinguishers every five years. The visual inspection consists of checking the pressure gauges, checking the extinguisher for damage and checking the manufacture date of the extinguisher and recording the result in a fire safety logbook and on the extinguisher.

Questions & Answers

Will this service disrupt the running of my business?

This is possible; however, it depends on which services are carried out during the visit and the condition of the electrical circuits and appliances that are being serviced. For example, a faulty wire that is being repaired may require the electrics being turned off. Our engineers are aware that businesses need to run as normal, therefore they will try and prevent disruption wherever they can.
